Singing a Prayer

From joining the Grand Ole Opry at just 21 years old, to winning 21 Grammy awards (more than any other female artist), to her work on the best-selling soundtrack for the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Alison Krauss has transformed bluegrass music into a fan favorite.

But some of her most powerful songs are the simplest, like this one: A Living Prayer.

In this world I walk alone

With no place to call my home

But there’s one who holds my hand

The rugged road through barren lands

The way is dark, the road is steep

But He’s become my eyes to see

The strength to climb, my griefs to bear

The Savior lives inside me there

In Your love I find release

A haven from my unbelief

Take my life and let it be

A living prayer, my God to Thee

In these trials of life I find

Another voice inside my mind

He comforts me and bids me live

Inside the love the Father gives

In Your love I find release

A haven from my unbelief

Take my life and let it be

A living prayer, my God to Thee

Take my life and let it be

A living prayer, my God to Thee

  1. Alison Krauss has one of the most beautiful voices!!! This one is inspirational!!! Thank-you for sharing. Oh yes, I have Worship channel on now, no better way to start the day Praising God our Father and seeing his beautiful creation.

What a beautiful poem. But the name of Jesus the Savior is missing from that song. Every Gospel musician and preacher must watch Christiano’s film “The Time Changer”.

Anna, this is from the CD “Lonely Runs Both Ways.” You can buy it on Amazon.com.

I live in Nashville, Tennessee and I am finding that more and more country artists are including religion in their ablums.
Alison has the voice of an angel. If you ever get a chance listen to the Cox Family with Alison Kraus. It is truly a very moving set of songs about how how Jesus affects lives.
Alison’s music helped me through a rough time when my beautiful 18 year old son Daniel died much too young. But I know he’s waiting for me in heaven and I yearn to be with him again.
    God bless
